Roasted chestnuts
Hot chestnuts are winter’s most comforting treats. Did you know that you can prepare them in your oven? It’s child’s play and cooks in just a few minutes. Remember that the term “chestnuts” is an improper generic name because it is actually the chestnuts that you eat, grilled over embers or in the stuffing of the Christmas turkey.
Ingredients :
- 1 kg whole chestnuts

Score each chestnut with the tip of a sharp knife. Make either a long cut of about 1 cm, or incise a cross on the most fleshy part.

Spread the chestnuts in a gratin dish or on a baking sheet, making sure they do not overlap.

When the oven is hot, bake for about 20 minutes (depending on the power of your oven).

Remove them to a serving dish and let them cool for a few minutes before shelling them and eating them while still whours Chestnuts can be eaten hot, whoursor cold.
Tips
To imitate hot chestnut sellers, serve your chestnuts in newspaper cones.
